Bayelsa APC Urges Buhari To Prosecute Jonathan, Patience

All Progressives Congress Chairman Perekeme Kpodo on Wednesday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to prosecute Jonathan and his wife Patience for mismanaging the country.

Mr. Kpodo, who is Jonathan’s kinsman and hails from the same area as the former president, made the call at a news conference in Yenagoa on Wednesday. He said the former president, his wife, and associates should be held responsible for their actions, such as allegedly looting resources of the country, as well as other associated crimes.

Mr. Kpodo, who was the former Interim Chairman of the New Peoples Democratic Party that later fused into APC, said the acceptance of defectors to the APC by the Tiwei Orunimighe-led executive committee was an illegal action. He said it was used to provide cover for a band of corrupt politicians seeking President Buhari’s protection from prosecution, a move he described as “unacceptable and provocative.”

He said the APC stance against corrupt associates of the last administration of Jonathan was well known and must be prosecuted to the letter. "The APC in the state will not allow the party to become a dumping ground for desperate looters and thieves in need of protection from prosecution,” he continued. "We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to order a detailed investigation into the acts of fraud and embezzlement by these defectors and their associates.” He specifically mentioned Goodluck and Patience Jonathan.

Mr. Kpodo then advised would-be defectors to obtain clearance from the ward level to the state level of the party. He said defectors must show evidence of performance from the parent party before the official presentation to the loyalists and progressive supporters of the APC.
