A Nigerian couple in the United States have been arrested after their three-month-old baby was found with fractures in his arms, legs and skulls. Arinola Olawusi, 33, and Olalekan Olawusi, 40 were arrested in by the police in Providence, Rhode Island after officers responding to the father’s 911 call found the baby critically injured and unconscious. NBC-affiliated television station for the state of Rhode Island, WJAR, reported on Tuesday that the police have charged Arinola charged with cruelty and neglect of a child, while Olalekan was charged with first and second degree child abuse. An eight-year-old girl who cannot speak and behave like normal humans has been rescued by the police in India, The Times of India reported. Police personnel in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh rescued the girl from the monkeys after one of them, a sub-inspector, who was on patrol near the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary spotted her with the monkeys. According to the report, when he tried to rescue the girl, the monkeys and the girl screeched. They, however, got her away eventually and took her to a hospital where she was placed on admission. The report said the girl gets scared at the sight of humans and is often violent. Also, she walks like animals, using her hands and legs together and eats directly from her mouth. The girl can neither speak nor understands any language, and gets scared at the sight of human beings. The doctors treating her said that she often gets violent. Three yet-to-be-identified people have reportedly died after drinking palm wine mixed with a concoction at Ilepa Quarters in Ikare Akoko, the headquarters of the Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday. The deceased were said to have consumed the palm wine in the house of a friend of theirs, identified as Azeez who allegedly prepared the drink. Azeez was said to have served the drink while celebrating his birthday on the fateful day. A source narrated that the palm wine allegedly contained some substances called gegemu and maladol. The substances were reportedly mixed with the palm wine in order to intoxicate the consumers.

A school allegedly belonging to Unoma Akpabio, the wife of the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has been seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. It was learnt that the seizure was part of investigations into the former governor who has been accused of alleged N108bn fraud during his tenure from 2007 to 2015. One of our correspondents who visited the school, St. John Paul II School, in Shelter Afrique, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, observed that the school had been marked “under investigation by EFCC.” It was learnt that the EFCC resorted to marking the school instead of shutting it so that innocent parents and students who had paid school fees would not be adversely affected.

A burglar who was caught attempting to rape a 94-year-old deaf and blind woman has been jailed for 14 years. Gregory Willis, who had already removed the grandmother’s lower nightclothes was caught kneeling on the woman’s bed without his trousers on. The judge who presided over the case described Willis’ action as “deeply shocking, horrifying and appalling as could possibly be imagined.” According to Daily Mail, Judge John Pini added, “The victim is 94 years of age. She had not long before this left a nursing home to be cared for in a safe, loving environment for the remaining time of her life. “She was registered blind, hard of hearing, had no short term memory, had poor balance and was doubly incontinent. She could not communicate. The Ogun Police Command on Wednesday said that it had arrested a 40-year -old woman, Foluke Owolewa, for allegedly killing her one-day old baby. The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Owoyemi, said the woman was arrested on Wednesday at Sango. It stated that the incident was reported at Sango Police Divisional Headquarters by community leaders. He said, “The suspect delivered the baby this morning but before anybody knows what happened, she had killed the baby girl. “Immediately the case was reported, the police led detectives to the scene at No. 17, Ilupeju Street, Anishere Unity Estate, Sango Ota, where the woman was promptly arrested. “On interrogation, the suspect claimed that her two other children are not being taken care of by her husband. “She said she killed the baby because she believed that the baby would be an additional burden on her. “Further investigations revealed that this is not the first time the woman will attempt killing her chil...

The riverrine community of Okwagbe in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State was thrown into pandemonium on Wednesday following the killing of one Atisin Opviarho in her farm by persons suspected to be ritual killers. Our correspondent gathered that the 65-year-old woman was found with her throat slit. It was learnt that the mother of five, who had left with other local farmers in the early hours of the day, was not seen when it was time to leave, prompting others to search for her. A source in the community said, “The intention of the killers was probably to use some of her parts for ritual.” She could not, however, confirm if any part of her body was taken away by the killers. Another resident, who identified himself simply as Mudi, added that the corpse had been deposited in Otu-Jeremi General Hospital mortuary pending police investigation.
