The All Progressives Congress (APC), South-East geographic zone, has dismissed rumour of a planned transfer of Boko Haram suspects to Ekwulobia Prison in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State Prisons, describing it as ”blatant falsehood”. The Chairman of Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State, Alhaji Baba Abare, on Sunday told journalists that the Boko Haram sect attacked two Yobe towns, Fika and Ngalda, on Saturday. Abare said the militants shot sporadically at the two towns to scare away people so as to have ample opportunity to loot. He explained that the major targets of the militants were shops in which they looted several food items as well as beverages, saying, however, that no life was loss during the attack. Fika is about 150 kilometres west of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, and shares boundary with Gombe State to the south. A resident of the area, Ibrahim Mohammed, who spoke on the telephone, said the terrorists first launched an attack on Ngalda, which is the Yobe/Gombe border town. An Improvised Explosive Device, believed to be planted by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, on Sunday exploded at a popular market, Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, living four persons critically injured, a member of the youth vigilance group in the town, Abba Modu, told our correspondent on the telephone. In the last 48 hours, the Borno State capital has come under the attack of the terrorists on no fewer than three occasions. On Saturday morning, the insurgents were repelled by the military when an attempt was made to invade the town. It was gathered that 16 persons were killed in that attack. On Saturday afternoon, a mosque located at the main market in the town, Monday Market, was attacked by a suicide bomber, during which 26 persons were reportedly killed and 28 others injured. Suspected Boko Haram insurgents on May 30, 2015, reportedly stormed two Yobe towns, burning down a police station and several government buildings. Report has it that the militants attacked Ngalda and Fika towns, Fika LGA, on Saturday evening. In Ngalda they sized fuel and robbed provision stores. Then the insurgents invaded Fika. According to a resident of Fika, Malam Ahmadu Maikano, the gunmen entered the town in two hilux vans and opened fire. “They burnt down police station, local government secretariat, LEA and departments of health, works,”he said. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded. However, Maikano disclosed that the locals had been suspicious of the fighters’ advancement. “That’s why many residents didn’t sleep in Ngalda and Fika, we all fled to save places,” Maikano added.
