Violence Against Children (VAC) in Nigeria is now a nebulous affair.
The National survey on VAC determines three types of violence:
> Physical violence
> Sexual violence
> Emotional violence
Now, a meticulous discussion or debate whatsoever would try to highlight a type of violence that mostly affects a number of children in Nigeria. Prior to that, i highlight Physical violence
Next, what is the most common consequence of VAC? For the readers, i'll enumerate some below and you can pick for yourselves.
> Psychological stress
> Depression
> Stigma
> Discrimination
> Low self-esteem
> Low performance in school
> STD
> Risky behaviours
> Injuries
> Unwanted pregnancy
> Death
Depression takes my vote.
Next question, what are the most common spaces or places where VAC occurs?
The following makes my list:
> Street
> School
> Family
> Inside the community
Permit me to say that the adage, "Charity begins at home", has just sprouted a new dennotation to this effect. Family is highlighted.
VAC can be exploited by anyone, who do you think perpetrates this act most?
> Father
> Mother
> Siblings
> Uncle
> Aunt
> Grandparents
> Caregivers
> Strangers
> Peers/other children
> Neighbours
> People living in the community
For me, i'd go for Caregivers, since it seems more general in lieu of "All of the above".
Last question is, what would you do if you witnessed VAC in your community?
I'll leave this one for the readers.
