Facebook latest permits users to control ads

Facebook on Thursday announced a new version of its Ad Preferences, which will allow users to “control their advertising experience” on which ads they don’t want to see on their feed.

“We’ve all experienced bad ads: ads that obscure the content we’re trying to read, ads that slow down load times or ads that try to sell us things we have no interest in buying. Facebook’s goal has always been to make ads as relevant to people as the content they see from friends and family,” Facebook said in a statement.
Through the expanded tools, Facebook said users can now remove certain interests from their ad preferences and stop seeing ads from business or organizations that added them to their customers lists.
“Facebook has learned that people don’t like to see ads that are irrelevant, disrupt their experience and they want more control over what they see. As a result of this we’re updating ad preferences, so people can stop seeing certain types of ads. We are also adding a tool that allows people to see which businesses have added them to their customer lists, and remove themselves,” it added.
Facebook said the update will also begin showing ads on Facebook desktop for users who are currently using ad blocking software, in a bid to promote “creative, relevant, and interesting” ads.
“These improvements are designed to give people even more control over how their data informs the ads they see…When they’re relevant and well-made, ads can be useful, helping us find new products and services and introducing us to new experiences,” it added.

Nnamdi Azikiwe’s first son dies at 75

Chukwuma Bamidele Azikiwe, the first son of first President of Nigeria, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, is dead. A family source, who pleaded not to be named, said he passed away at Bromeo Hospital on Sunday at the age of 75. It was gathered that he had been battling a protracted respiratory-related ailment for some years. Chukwuma, until his death, was the Owelle of Onitsha, a traditional position he inherited from his father in 1996. Coincidentally, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe died 19 years ago on May 11, 1996. Chukwuma had once contested the governorship seat of the old Anambra State at the end of his diplomatic career, but lost. As Owelle, he was sixth in rank to the Obi of Onitsha.

OMG! Woman jailed for trying to smuggle heroin in underwear

An Australian woman of Vietnamese origin was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Tuesday for trying to smuggle heroin in her underwear, state media reported. Lam Thi Kim Hong Hanh, 38, was caught with 376 grams of the drug at Ho Chi Minh city's Tan Son Nhat airport in December last year, the Cong An Nhan Dan newspaper reported on its website.
