UNICEF treats 20,429 malnourished children in Kebbi

The UNICEF has achieved 90.3 per cent success in the treatment of 20, 429 malnourished children in Kebbi.
A consultant with the body, Mr. Adetunji Falana, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday that the trearment was carried out between January and September this year.

He however said that 1.4 per cent of the malnourished children died during the period while six per cent failed to obtain treatment.
Falana identified absence of nutrition supplies and poor utilization of nutrition services by targeted beneficiaries as responsible for the high number of victims in the state.
He also said that inadequate skilled manpower and poor funding at local government level had limited intervention efforts to once a week in 15 local councils targeted by the programme.
The expert said UNICEF had supported community management of acute malnutrition through improvement of infant and young adult feeding, control of micronutrient deficiencies and providing iodine fortification.
