Kwara to immunise 767,200 children against measles

The Kwara State Government said a total of 767,200 children (ages 1-5years), would be vaccinated against measles disease in the ongoing nation wide immunisation exercise.

The exercise will take place in 995 working points in the state covering all the 193 wards of the 16 local government areas in the state.
The Director, Kwara State primary Health Care and Disease Control,Ministry of Health, Dr. Abimbola Folorunsho, disclosed this at a media workshop held in Ilorin before the flag- off of the immunisation exercise.
Folorusho who spoke through the state’s Communications Consultant of the Project ,Dr Amina Yahaya said “the measles vaccines are safe”.
She assured parents and guardians that the injection will not cause paralyses as it will be given at the arm, even as she said mild cases of fever often reported in some children the past should not be cause for alarms.
The director assured that trained officers and medical personnel have bee equipped to carry out the job.

School bus crushes OAU student to death in Osogbo

Tragedy struck in Osogbo on Wednesday when a 200 level law student at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Miss. Mary Ibitolu, was crushed to death by a bus belonging to a private secondary school in Osogbo. Our correspondent gathered that the deceased was on a commercial motorcycle when the bus which was said to have suffered brake failure hit the bike and knocked her down. She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital at Okefia where she gave up the ghost. The motorcyclist was said to have survived the accident. A commuter, who was waiting to board a bus was also said to have been knocked down but survived. One of the eyewitnesses, a hawker in front of Osogbo High School where the accident happened told our correspondent that the school bus broke down but the driver called on some passers by to assist him to push-start the engine.
