In Sokoto: Sultan urges wealthy Muslims to support the needy

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III on Sunday urged wealthy Muslims to pay out their Zakat to the needy in order to reduce the high level of poverty in the society.
Abubakar made the appeal when he distributed over N4.67 million Zakat proceeds to the needy at Durbawa in Kware local Government of Sokoto State.

425 sewing machines, 85 deep freezer, 85 generators and 425 grinding machines were also distributed.
“This will surely serve as a way of helping the society, it is a way of eradicating poverty and unemployment among us.
“The gesture will also serve as a means of fostering more understanding between leaders and their followers,’’ the Sultan said.
He commended the efforts of Islamic scholars in the state for sensitising the populace on the importance of giving out Zakat for the benefit of mankind.
The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mani Maishinku, called on the people to support government at all level, to guarantee peace, unity and development in the country.
Chairman of the state Zakkat and Endowment Committee, Malam Lawal Maidoki, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the donation to become self reliant.
He disclosed that the committee would also utilise the proceeds of the Zakat to cater for psychiatric and epilepsy patients in the state.

See Wooden Bridge Constructed By Young Men In Adamawa State Without Government Support

This wooden bridge was constructed by young men in Adamawa without government support. The old bridge was destroyed by Boko Haram. It was a very important bridge that connects Adamawa North and Adamawa Central. Even the governor and other important people in the state use this wooden bridge when they visit their villages. Instead of rebuilding the bridge, the Adamawa state government recently announced that it will spend 200 million Naira on prayer warriors. I believe that is a misuse of public money. Nigerians are praying daily. You don't need to spend millions on prayers. The North East states have a lot of work to do in rebuilding the communities and infrastructures destroyed by Boko Haram. I don't think the governors in the region understand the magnitude of the problem. It is time for them to wake up and get their priorities right. If you know the Adamawa State governor, tell him that rebuilding this bridge is an important and urgent project.
