Boko Haram Attacks Bara Town Of Yobe State

The Boko Haram militants on Wednesday carried out a coordinated attack in Bara town of Yobe State northeast Nigeria.

Residents told Channels Television that the insurgents stormed the town on Wednesday night burning houses, shops, foodstuffs among other valuables with Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) as they (residents) ran for safety.
The insurgents who arrived the town in large number reportedly burnt several houses during the coordinated attack.
The source further said that some of the residents were caught up in the houses set ablaze and were receiving treatment at Bajoga Hospital in neighbouring Gombe State.
A top police officer who confirmed the attack said that the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Zannah Ibrahim, has since rushed to the scene of the attack to assess the extent of havoc caused to the town.
Casualty figure, according to him, was not yet known, but residents fled into bushes for safety and slept there overnight.
Bara is the headquarters of Gulani Local Government Areas of the state and located 109km south of Damaturu the state capital.
Bara has experienced several attacks from the sect who had initially taken over the whole of the town for several months before it was reclaimed by security forces.
The town currently lacks basic amenities and telecom facilities have been vandalised by the militants.

See Wooden Bridge Constructed By Young Men In Adamawa State Without Government Support

This wooden bridge was constructed by young men in Adamawa without government support. The old bridge was destroyed by Boko Haram. It was a very important bridge that connects Adamawa North and Adamawa Central. Even the governor and other important people in the state use this wooden bridge when they visit their villages. Instead of rebuilding the bridge, the Adamawa state government recently announced that it will spend 200 million Naira on prayer warriors. I believe that is a misuse of public money. Nigerians are praying daily. You don't need to spend millions on prayers. The North East states have a lot of work to do in rebuilding the communities and infrastructures destroyed by Boko Haram. I don't think the governors in the region understand the magnitude of the problem. It is time for them to wake up and get their priorities right. If you know the Adamawa State governor, tell him that rebuilding this bridge is an important and urgent project.
