While presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries at the Governor’s Lodge, Awka, on Wednesday, Governor Willie Obiano said the gesture is a simple way of rewarding excellence as well as a sure way to consolidate sustenance of academic excellence in the state.

Amongst the beneficiaries were the physically challenged students, orphans who lost their parents in the disturbing insurgency in the Northeast and who were forced to relocate down to their homes in the state, as well as students who distinguished themselves in both national and international competitions.
Opening the floor for speeches, the State Commissioner for Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, remarked that since the inception of Governor Obiano’s administration, the Education Ministry had expended over thirty million Naira on scholarship awards which she said was a great motivation to beneficiaries and those aspiring to excel.
In batches, the scholarship and cheques were handed out to the beneficiaries as a stimulant to enhance performance in their various fields of academic participation.
The Governor assured of the sustainability of the gesture as it has been observed to be yielding great benefits.
Anambra State, in the last three years, has been consistent in remaining tops in both the West African Examination (WAEC), and the National Examination (NECO).
