4,000 policemen deployed against B’Haram in North-East – IG

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has said that the police are actively involved in the operations against Boko Haram in North-East, noting that 4,000 police operatives are carrying out attacks with the military against the insurgents.

Arase explained that a Deputy Commissioner of Police was deployed in the Operation Command centre in Maiduguri.
The IG said this while hosting a delegation from the United States Embassy led by Amb. Daniel Mozena, according to a statement on Thursday by the police spokesperson, Olabisi Kolawole.
He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to actively sustain the fight against insurgency in the country.
Mozena commended the police for upholding professionalism and the rules of engagement in the on-going fight against insurgency.
“He also offered to help the Force in handling terror suspects that may lay down their arms,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, security was tight in the Federal Capital Territory as police personnel were observed at every strategic part of the city to protect residents celebrating the Eid-Kabir.
The policemen were deployed to provide security at the various Eid praying grounds in Kubwa, Airport Road, Nyanya and other areas.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole stated that the heightened security was in response to the order from the IG mandating all Command Commissioners of Police to beef up security in their jurisdictions.
