Former SGF, Aminu Saleh Dies at 82

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Aminu Saleh, during the late General Sani Abacha’s regime, is dead.
Saleh died yesterday at the age of 82 in Azare, Bauchi State.

He was a former Finance Minister and permanent secretary in the ministry of Defence. He became the Chairman of the National Qu’ranic Recitation Committee in 2006.

He served in various capacities at both the state and the federal levels.

Saleh served the Obasanjo regime in the 1970s and Abacha’s beginning from 1993.

Saleh is also the owner of a beverage known as “Brahma and Tandi Guarana” and a shareholder in various companies.

Meanwhile, former Governor of the state, Malam Isa Yuguda, has described the death of the elder statesman as a great loss to the country considering that his wealth of experience is needed at a critical time like the one the country is passing through now.

Yuguda in a statement made available to THISDAY while reacting to the news of the demise of the elder statesman, described it as a monumental loss not only to his immediate and extended families, Katagum Emirate and Bauchi State but the entire country considering his contributions to the socio-political and economic development of the country over the years.

In the statement signed and issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ishola Michael Adeyemi, the former governor recalled that he enjoyed fatherly advice from Saleh during his eight years tenure as governor of the state, pointing out that he was always frank and straight forward on matters that borders on good governance of leadership.

Yuguda particularly recalled that the late elder statesman allowed his son, Sagir Aminu Saleh to serve as his Deputy Governor between 2011 and 2015 declaring that he enjoyed working with him (Sagir) because of his loyalty and commitment, virtues he believed he must have learnt from the old man.

The former governor then commiserated with the immediate and extended families, Katagum Emirate, as well as the government and good people of Bauchi State over the loss, praying Allah to grant his soul eternal rest in Aljanat Firdausi, as well as the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
