Man trekking from Yola to Abuja to see Buhari, arrives Bauchi

A middle-aged man, Malam Abubakr Umar, who started trekking from Yola, Adamawa, on April 26, to celebrate the victory of President-elect, Maj-Gen Muhammadu Buhari, arrived Bauchi on Saturday, on his way to Abuja.

Umar, 43, popularly called “Duduwalle” by residents of Jimeta in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa , told newsmen in Bauchi that he was carrying more than 300 letters of requests from people of the North East sub-region, to Buhari.

According to him, most of the letters contained requests urging the president-elect to address the problem of insecurity and re-build the sub-region.

He said that the letters were given to him by people along the road, adding that “some women have also asked me to appeal to Buhari not to scrap the office of the First Lady.”

The Walker said the women had told him that the office would provide them the opportunity to benefit from women empowerment programmes and other benefits.

He explained that his walk to Abuja was also to identify with notable Adamawa indigenes, such as the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Aliyu Mustapha; and wife of the president-elect, Hajiya Aisha Buhari.

The walker said his main objective for the trekking, was to further encourage the President-elect to carry on with his plans for Nigeria, especially the North East sub-region, ravaged by insurgency.

Meanwhile, Umar had left for Abuja on foot, after his brief stopover in Bauchi.
