Swansea City sacks manager Monk

Swansea City have sacked manager Garry Monk following a recent poor run of results which left the club 15th in the Premier League table.

Monk has been at the club for 11 years, first as a player before replacing Michael Laudrup as manager in February 2014 on an interim basis before signing a three-year deal at the end of the 2013-14 season.
Swansea earned a record points haul in Monk's only full season in charge as they finished eighth last term but, after starting strongly, a run of one win since August saw Monk and the club part ways.
In a statement, chairman Huw Jenkins said: "The decision has been made very reluctantly and with a heavy heart.
“To find ourselves in our current situation from where we were in the first week of September, and considering the drop of performance levels and run of results over the last three months, it has brought us to this unfortunate decision today."
Monk joined the club in 2004 and made over 200 appearances as they climbed from League Two into the Premier League, captaining the team for the majority after first being handed the armband in 2006.
