Court remands 40-yr-old woman over alleged murder of boyfriend in Benue state

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 40-year-old business woman at the Federal Prisons Makurdi over alleged murder of her boy friend.
The woman, Christiana Owulo, of Agbike Street, Oju in the Oju Local Government Area of Benue was arraigned before the court presided over by Mrs Lillian Tsumba for allegedly killing her boyfriend, Ladoga Onah.

Owulo was charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide punishable under Sections 97 and 225 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State, 2004.
The Prosecuting Police Officer, Insp. Terzungwe Kajo, told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Oju on Aug. 28 to the CID, Makurdi for investigation.
Kajo said that the deceased’s brother, Johnson Onah, had reported the matter at the Oju Police Station on Aug. 20 this year.
The prosecutor said that Onah told police that his 30-year-old brother was murdered by unknown persons.
He quoted Onah as explaining that they found his brother’s corpse at the market square in Oju.
The prosecution said the accused, who was a girlfriend to the deceased, slept in the same room with the deceased on the night he was killed.
When the case came up for mention, the accused person did not take any plea as Tsumba said her court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
The prosecution applied to the court for an adjournment, explaining that investigation was still in progress to enable police to apprehend other fleeing suspects.
Tsumba ordered the accused to be remanded and adjourned the matter to Oct. 8 for further mention.
