260 Kano mass wedding couples now parents

No fewer than 260 couples, who participated in Kano State’s mass wedding programme have become parents of new born babies within the last two years, the State’s Hisbah Board has confirmed.

Hisbah Board Commander-General, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, said this while receiving the Emir of Durbah, Gombe State, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, who paid him a courtesy visit on his way to Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj.

Daurawa warned that it had been made abundantly clear that those who married during the state-sponsored mass wedding, would not be allowed to divorce his wife without permission from the Hisbah Board.

According to him, the programme had been extended to neighbouring states like Katsina, Gombe and Kaduna.

He explained that Kano State had sponsored no fewer than 5,000 marriages since 2012, when the programme was first introduced, with 1,000 couples making the first batch.
