Watford goal scoring sensation Odion Ighalo is confident of scoring more Premier League goals, saying his partnership with captain Troy Deeney has been key to his run of goalscoring form for his club.
Ighalo now has nine league goals this season – putting the 26-year-old former Granada star fourth in the Premier League scorers’ list.
Leicester City super striker Jamie Vardy continues to lead the Premier League scoring charts after plundering 14 goals, ahead of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku with 11, with Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez in the third position.
Ighalo, who has scored two goals for the Super Eagles since making his international debut in the 1-0 defeat to Uganda in a friendly affair in Uyo in March, has promised Watford fans more goals.
The former Nigeria Under-20 team captain praised Watford manager Quique Flores for believing in him and ensuring a coherent striking partnership between him and Deeney. Both strikers have scored 14 Premier League goals between them so far this season.
Ighalo believes the partnership has brought out the best in him.
“I’ve scored nine now but I don’t want to stop there. I want to keep on working hard and scoring goals,” the former Udinese player was quoted byThe Expressas saying.
On his partnership with 27-year-old Englishman Deeney, Ighalo said, “We’ve been working hard at training every day and I know we’ve been causing defenders serious problems. We know if we keep fit and do this we’ll stay in the Premier League.
“The coach is giving me belief and he is happy with the work rate I am putting into the game.”
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s academy coach Mark Allen claims Nigeria Kelechi Iheanacho’s success proves the club’s young talent can break through into their stellar first-team squad.
The 19-year-old, who joined Man City after guiding Nigeria to their fourth FIFA Under-17 World Cup triumph in the United Arab Emirates in 2013, scored his first goal for the English giants in their Premier League 5-1 hammering of Crystal Palace at Etihad Stadium on October 28.
The one-cap Super Eagles forward bagged his second goal in Man City’s 4-1 defeat of Hull City in their Carling Cup fixture at Etihad Stadium last week.
