President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday praised the national Under-23 team for winning the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal.
Nigeria defeated Algeria 2-1 to win the championship on Saturday.
Buhari, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu, said the team deserved the victory.
“The boys have worked incredibly and admirably so hard to bring glory to Nigeria. Their tenacity and the passion to excel were factors that propelled the team to victory,” the President said.
He said his administration would encourage the team to succeed in future tournaments.
According to the President, the Federal Government will always reward hard work and excellence.
He however advised the team to sustain the standard they have attained.
