Tragedy! Three dead, eight injured in Lagos auto accident


At least three people have been killed, while eight others are in critical condition after a commuter bus collided with a Toyota Corolla along the Lekki-Epe Expressway of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened around 12pm on Sunday while the bus was heading towards Ajah.

The bus, which was loaded with passengers, was said to be on top speed, when its propeller broke. The driver was said to have lost control of the bus.
It was said to have skidded off the road and collided with the black Toyota Corolla, which was conveying a couple.
A rescue official with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the bus conductor and two passengers died on the spot.
Eight other passengers were said to have been critically injured and rushed to the hospital.
He said, “This incident happened around 12pm when a mini commuter bus travelling from Lekki to Ajah and loaded with passengers, had an accident around Marwa bus stop.
“The propeller of the vehicle must have been damaged while the driver was on top speed. We just observed that he skidded off the road.
“The bus collided with a black Toyota Corrola with two occupants ─ husband and wife. The conductor, a male passenger and a female passenger died on the spot.”
It was learnt that policemen from the Maroko division visited the spot and took the corpses to a mortuary in the area.
The Lagos State Ambulance Service was said to have later arrived to take the survivors to the Lagos Island General Hospital.
The spokesperson for LASTMA, Mrs. Bola Ajao, called for caution among motorists and commercial drivers in the state.
Ajao said, “Motorists must continue to exercise caution while driving on the road. Passengers must also not fail to warn drivers who are speeding. If a driver does not listen to you, please disembark the bus.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed the incident.
He said, “It was a case of fatal motor accident. A commercial bus lost control and rammed into a car.
“The bus conductor sustained serious injuries and he died on the way.”
