Oliseh to recall Mikel for Tanzania

New Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh is expected to recall Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel to the squad.

Mikel has not been part of the Super Eagles setup since playing in the 2-2 draw with South Africa back in November 2014.

However, Oliseh has called him up to the squad for the vital AFCON qualifier against Tanzania next month and believes he is still has an important role to play in the team.

"Mikel still remains one of Nigeria's top stars in Europe even he is no longer playing regularly for Chelsea these days and that is why he will be part of Oliseh's immediate plans, beginning with the AFCON qualifier in Tanzania next month," an official from the Nigeria Football Federation told AfricanFootball.

"But instead of giving him a free role as he has been given in the Eagles in the past, he will play as a defensive midfielder, like he does for his club."

The Super Eagles are desperate for a result in Tanzania in order to keep pace with Egypt who sit top of their qualifying group for the 2017 AFCON tournament in Gabon.
