Ghana: Late President son donates to father’s school

The son of the late Ghanaian President John Evans Atta Mills, Samuel Fiifi Atta Mills, on Tuesday made a donation to the Achimota School in Accra as part of activities to mark his father’s 71 birthday celebrations posthumously. Making the donation to his father’s former school, young Mills said he did the gesture in honour of his father who used his birthdays to touch the hearts of the needy in Ghana.

Late President Mills is on record as the first Ghanaian President to use his travel allowances to help the needy and underprivileged in society.


Items he donated included mosquito treated bed nets, assorted foods and household essentials worth about $3,000.
Late President Mills’ died on July 24, 2012, three days after celebrating his 68th birthday on July 21, 2012 with the Osu Children’s Home in Ghana.

Meanwhile a memorial lecture was on Tuesday held in honour of the outstanding law and economics professor.

Alleged N108bn fraud: EFCC confiscates Governor Akpabio’s wife’s school

A school allegedly belonging to Unoma Akpabio, the wife of the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has been seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. It was learnt that the seizure was part of investigations into the former governor who has been accused of alleged N108bn fraud during his tenure from 2007 to 2015. One of our correspondents who visited the school, St. John Paul II School, in Shelter Afrique, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, observed that the school had been marked “under investigation by EFCC.” It was learnt that the EFCC resorted to marking the school instead of shutting it so that innocent parents and students who had paid school fees would not be adversely affected.
