Frank Lampard believes Eden Hazard “needs help” at Chelsea but insists Jose Mourinho should not rest the Belgian.
The 24-year-old has been unable to replicate last season’s blistering form which led to him win the PFA Player of the Year as well as his first Premier League title since joining Stamford Bridge in 2012.
And Lampard, who won 11 trophies during his 13-year-stint at Chelsea, feels Hazard needs his confidence restored.
“I love Eden Hazard as a player, I was fortunate enough to play with him, his ability is frightening,” Lampard said onSky Sports’ ‘Monday Night Football’.
“He’s come out himself about his level [of performance] this year but I think he needs help.
“I think we forget he’s a young boy, he’s come onto the scene these last couple of years, he’s never had a moment like this in his career. He’s never had to worry. He’s generally played very well, last year he was creating all season, and was the difference for Chelsea to a big extent.
“At the minute he looks like a player down on his confidence. I know he’s a good lad and I think maybe a bit of help [is what he needs].”
When asked if Hazard needed a rest in order to rediscover his form, Lampard replied: “I don’t know about a rest, I’d like to see him playing regularly.
“He has to work hard to get out of this, make no mistake about that. If Chelsea are going to turn the corner and get up towards the Champions League positions, which they have to, they need Eden Hazard at his best and I think you’ve got to go with him, put your arm around him, try and help him get to that level we know he can do.”
