Court stops Ortom from probing ex-Gov Suswam


A Makurdi High Court presided by Justice Iorhenmen Hwande on Monday ordered “stay of proceedings ” on both the judicial commission of inquiry and administrative panel of inquiry set up by Benue State Government to probe the administration of Ex-governor Gabriel Suswam pending the determination of the substantive motion.

Suswam earlier filed a suit containing about 10 motions supported by affidavit at the state High Court to restrain his successor, Governor Samuel Ortom, from probing his administration.
Justice Hwande in his ruling said, “After considering the affidavit and addresses of counsel to Suswam and also having recourse to s.22(2) of the High Court Law and order 40(3(1) of the High Court. Civil procedure rules 2007, I’m satisfied that leave ought to be granted the applicant to proceed as prayed”.
“Consequently leave is granted the applicant (Suswam) to seek the reliefs as contained on the motion paper. Notice is to served on the respondents who may reacts where they choose.”

Alleged N108bn fraud: EFCC confiscates Governor Akpabio’s wife’s school

A school allegedly belonging to Unoma Akpabio, the wife of the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has been seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. It was learnt that the seizure was part of investigations into the former governor who has been accused of alleged N108bn fraud during his tenure from 2007 to 2015. One of our correspondents who visited the school, St. John Paul II School, in Shelter Afrique, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, observed that the school had been marked “under investigation by EFCC.” It was learnt that the EFCC resorted to marking the school instead of shutting it so that innocent parents and students who had paid school fees would not be adversely affected.
