Gov Lalong Imposes Dusk-To-Dawn Curfew On 2 Plateau LGs

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has directed the imposition of a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of the state, following a resurgence of violence in the areas.
The Street Journal recalls that the open-ended ethno-religious violence between the Berom and Fulani communities reared its ugly head again this week, leaving in its wake, many dead and scores injured.

Announcing the curfew, Mr Rufus Bature, the Secretary to the State Government, said in a statement on Thursday that the curfew starts from 6 p.m. and ends at 6 a.m.
Bature said that the curfew would remain in place until normalcy returned to the warring communities.
The statement further said that, in addition to the security personnel already deployed in the affected areas by the Special Task Force to restore law and order, additional security personnel would be deployed to protect lives and property.
It also warned members of the public against taking actions that could worsen the already precarious security situation in the areas.
It would be recalled that Governor Lalong recently held a truce meeting with leaders of Berom and Fulani ethnic groups with a view to finding lasting solution to their lingering crises, which reached a crescendo during the Jang administration.
The Governor had told the community leaders that the meeting was aimed at giving the leaders the opportunity to openly express themselves and suggest ways to stop attacks and reprisals, particularly in Barkin-Ladi and Riyom LGAs, which are most affected by the crises.
Representatives of both sides resolved and pledged to ensure the maintenance of peace in their respective communities and with their neighbours at the end of the meeting.
