President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked his chief security officer Abdulrahman Mani, ThisDay reported on Sunday. According to the newspaper, Mani’s removal comes in the abrasive heat of an alleged power tussle with Aide-de-Camp (ADC) Lt-Col. Muhammed Abubakar Lawal.
No reason was advanced for Mani’s sacking although security analysts say, Buhari it could be linked to the recent upsurge in attacks by Boko Haram, the latest of which killed over 40 villagers in the northeast of the country.
The analyst say Buhari’s new government was determined not to lose the momentum against the insurgents following a series of victories strengthened by Nigeria’s neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Niger involvement militarily.
The three countries have also come under repeated attacks by the insurgents, prompting the establishment of a multinational force to deal with the cross-border insurgency by the militants whose stated objective to create an Islamic caliphate.
